For topic 9 we also have a guest speaker. It is Dr Arno van Niekerk from University of the Free State where he teaches international economics. He has said that he does not want a lecture, but rather wants to lead a discussion on globalisation and the opportunities and challenges that it presents. They recently hosted SARB Governor Marcus at UFS on this topic.
This whole course should have prepared you to participate in such a discussion. By now you should know everything about the state of the world economy, competitiveness, the crisis in Europe and the US, what it all means for emerging economies. For background reading with an international trade angle I recommend Richard Baldwin’s NBER paper on Trade and industrialisation after globalisation’s second great unbundling. Please have a look at that.
If you are blogging for this topic, the post is again a reporting one. Make sure that you are there and write about the discussion.
